Potential Clients: UK Children's Book Publishers

Potential Clients: UK Children's Book Publishers

I will be doing this:

Visiting the London Book Fair. Prior to this I will identify publishers who I think may possibly be interested in my work. Although, my tutors have all suggested that Italian or French publishers are probably where I ought to be looking.

I have just purchased a copy of the Children's Writers' & Artists' Yearbook 2016 which I will be scouring for tips and contacts. It is jam packed with just about everything I need to know for my chosen field, from general publishing advice to literary agents, magazines and newspapers, prizes and festivals.

I won't be doing this:

Choose Your Publisher

Well this was a complete swizz! Sent my details and then a couple of days later a woman from a call centre rings me up and attempts to sell me a publishing deal funded by me myself and I!!?? I asked about cost after she had run through her list of standard questions, one of which was about the precise content of my book, which she insisted was necessary in order to quote me. Mmm, yes well I insisted that it really wasn't necessary! At the end of her spiel she directed me to their standard price list (I was right after all!), and it was crazy expensive. Won't be using this publishing house. I asked about their art directors and how they selected illustrators, as they offered a service to writers to match up their texts and she was vague, but said that they already had illustrators that they used exclusively.

AuthorHouse.co.uk: Better start saving up then...
AuthorHouse.co.uk: I think I will seek an alternative...
